I found a nice way to access the media (music, photos and even videos) on my PC through the web browser in the Wii. It’s a really simple process, and all you require is some free windows software. Here’s a quick guide:
1) Install winamp (great media player - you need at least v5.3.2) and winamp remote which you can download by clicking on the “winamp remote” link in the media library of winamp.
2) Set up a free winamp remote account.
3) Right click on the winamp remote system tray icon and choose configuration. Now add the directories containing the music, videos, photos etc that you want to make available through winamp remote.
And you’re done. Now just browse to http://www.orb.com/winamp/ in your Wii browser and login and you can access your music.

3[...] A few days ago, I showed you how to stream your tunes and videos to your Wii using Winamp, but if that didn’t work for you, or you don’t have a good music collection, try these online streaming sites that make Wii accessibility a cinch! [...]

5I’ve been using mycast.orb.com, which is the same basic functionaility as winamp remote with a different skin I guess. It works well over the LAN, and works at lower resolutions from anywhere. Once the opera browser nav bar can be hidden, it will work well. The flash quality isn’t good enough to replace your TV signal just yet though, even with the supported tuner cards.

10Yes, shoutcast will do that, but the Wii does not currently have a media player integrated.

11Awesome article! I love my Wii, and so many people seem to think that it’s lacking in the capabilities that the PS3 and XBOX have but there’s really so much you can do with it, like this, for example. Thanks for sharing!

12This is so cool. I have my laptop and wii connected, it looks like it is playing but there is no sound. Any suggestions? (I checked my sound connections.)
Thanks!

13TVersity is a freeware project that allows you to stream pics, music, and video to browser ON YOUR LOCAL LAN.
You can even add in urls (like youtube videos) and TVersity will act as a proxy and “grab” that url for you to stream to any supported device on your network.
It also supports WAN streaming, but the security is not quite ready yet. Just make sure you dont open up your router to allow access from the outside.
It will even transcode, or decode video on the fly, so if you have a device that wont play certain video types (XBOX 360 and .avi for example), TVersity will allow these types to play on these devices.
Wii’s Opera can get the feeds too.

17This is absolutely outstanding!
I can throw away my Phillips Streamium (which never really worked right), and my Wii looks a lot prettier too!
I was looking at getting the X-Oom media centre but it seems very shakey from the reviews
Happy day
